After putting a few weeks work into my site, I'd like to make a back up of it somehow.
What would happen to my site if the Wix location were wiped out in a natural disaster, or just went out of business? Is there a way I can get the file / code so that I could recreate it somewhere else if need be? I'm not real tech savvy, but I know enough to always keep a backup ;-P |

nope there is no way to create a back up of wix .
wix keeps it to them selfs, lol they host it so there is really no way to "download" the website to your hardrive ![]() maybe there is some complicated way of doing it but i haven't seen it

Maxam, there is a way.
First up, go to the editor with the Maxam site in it and go to file > save as > name it "backup" > press ok. You will now have a backup copy on you're account. If you want to go one step further; do this. create another wix account > call it 'maxambackup' > now once it it created and you are at the 'my account' page > log out. Now log in to you're proper maxam account and go to you're 'My Account' page > now open you're original maxam site in the editor, leave it open. Now, with the editor still open, go back to the 'My Account' page and log out - now log in to the 'maxambackup' account we made and go to the 'My Account' page. Now, with the account page still open - go back to the editor and click file > save as > name it maxam backup. You will now have a copy on a seperate account. When/if you need this copy - just do exactly what you just did but switch the accounts. I know it's not ideal but it's the best we've got atm ![]() Good luck. Tom

I was thinking something more along the lines of having a backup on my system.. not the wix system. After searching the forum a bit, this seems to be a very popular request. I understand that if you're giving out the code behind these sites that could be hosted elsewhere, your losing revenue, but you really ought to consider having a "Buy My Code" option. Seems like allowing people to come to wix, design their site, and then pay for whatever files run that code and take them wherever they'd like or just have them on their own backup drive would be a good move for wix, and good for the customers also.
Otherwise I don't see wix ever getting much past small biz and myspace pages. I'm already considering alternatives for the long term... it's just too important of a thing to have no business control over. |

Hi
Our business model can't allow us to do that for now. We're aware of such a need and keep it in mind. We'll probably look dor some solutions but not in a near future.
