FAQ

Can I remove or change the favicon in the address bar?

Yes, if you upgrade to a premium package with the 'no ads' option
definitely ticked - you should be able to remove it. As for changing it
Wix is still making up their mind whether we weill be able to or not.

If for some reason you have a premium package with the 'no ads'
option ticked and you cannot remove your favicon. Contact
premium@wix.com and they will help you out!

General Help

Changing My Document's Name?

1. To change your username: in My Account > click Setting
tab and create a new username. Please remember this for
your login information as well.

2. To change your document name: Open your Wix site in
the editor (My Account >rollover click edit). Then click
on "File" -> "Save As".

Then you'll find two identical websites in your My Acccount,
one with the new name and one with the old. You can delete
the spare one (if you want) and you're done.

Tips for creating a simple, but professional Wix site..

Opening You're First Site!

wix.com > my account > launch editor > begin creating!

Sizing:

Now you have you're site open, let's set the size - to do this go to the 'settings' button up the top and click it - this will open up a 'dialog box' where we can set all of our preferences (note. you will have more preferences such as domain name and google analytics if you have bought a premium site.

Now find the'Page: Width: XXXX Height: XXXX boxes - a good resolution to begin with is 1200 x 1100 but you can adjust the resolution to what ever suits you best.

Colors:

Now that we have set our resolution - lets decide what 'background' color to use: On the same settings dialog box there will be a 'Background Color' button, click the blue box (default color) and you will be presented with a color pallete - choose whichever color you want.

Close the 'settings' dialog box and travel to the 'page parts' nav-bar on the left of you're screen.

Select the 'Background' option - this will present us with a range of colors and designs of which we can use as our sites background!

I suggest you use a neutral color like black or white - but if you want your site to be a little bit flashy, feel free to pick any vibrant color you wish!

Transformation:

After you are done choosing your background, click on it, a white border will appear (this is called the transform border) note that this transform border is 'locked' - to unlock it, move your mouse to the top right corner and you will see a red colored lock icon.

Simply click this icon and you're background will be 'unlocked' (note. this 'locking' can happen with any object, especially if you are grouping objects.

You can now pull and twist you're background until you are happy with it.

Headers:

We will now create what is called a 'header' - headers are used to properly situate logos and other signage on a website, they also map out a nice outline for your menus! This sites header is a good example - it is not too over-the-top or flashy, yet it gives a nice clean feel to the site - it also sets a nice stage for the navigation menus up the top.

To make yours, you must decide on one main color to 'theme' your site (this sites theme is light blue). A properly layed out theme can split the difference between a professional and not-so-professional site.

To create a header go to clip art > shapes > square. you can then select the clolor you want from the menu at the bottom of the editor.

Position it so as it fits nicely with the sides of your 'background' - next, put you're logo or site name in the top left or right of the header.

Now that we have completed our header, lets create some 'content boxes'

Content Boxes:

page parts > areas > iarea. click and twist the transform box around the area to position and scale it nicely. We will use these to house our content.

We have now finished our site template, if you would like to add other pages, go to the top right of the page and select 'add page'.

Duplicates:

To keep the exact design on our new page that we have on our other pages; simply:

manage > find you're home page > click the duplicate button (The one with two little boxes lapped over each other.)

And you can delete the content on the duplicate and insert the content you want for you're new page!
