Default Emergency Help Needed (serious)

WIX is now hosting my website (Wix.com - Website built by lukethedrifter1 based on Photographers Utopia). Since it has, I have been no longer able to 1) access my files on my server via FTP 2) get or use my company email. (server at sbcglobal.net)

All of business work is on my server and well as the video clips i need to embed. And all of the email sent to xxx@sgpmedia.com is bouncing.

How do I keep my web site on Wix and still make the above work.

Losing business.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Luke, I've seen this kind of being reported before, as if connecting business sites to Wix can leave people stranded, without access to their email etc. Let's keep your S.O.S. post here at the top of the Forum where Tanya and Mario can see it and help you out.

I take it you've written with precisely these issues to Premium at Wix. com?

Besides moral support - I have to say that I looked at your site and I couldn't find anything Wix on it. The source code never mentions Wix If it's actually connected, it's in a way I've never seen before.

---And there is some issue going on with your site's pages - Their URLs are incredibly long strings of code instead of simple page names like "Web design" and "Advertising"----Addresses like that can't stay in place on a site - Something's very wrong there.

But first of all you need support from Wix - I'm totally confused since, as I said, it doesn't look to me like your site is connected here. That URL you posted is a free account name - but we're taken to your outside Spgmedia site - ?-----? ----

Default I Dunno

I am building the site using the "Utopia" template, (I've kinda screwed it up, and probably will start from scratch later today)

Anyway I an using that template, upgraded to premium, changed the DNS as instructed and this morning, it showed up as planned at www.sgpmedia.com

THE BIG PROBLEM here is, again, that i cant access the files on MY server ftp.sgpmedia.com nor can i get email sent to xxx@sgpmedia.com

I really need help asap for obvious reasons

-Helping to keep your S.O.S. up at the top.

I'll be very interested in seeing how this is resolved. I looked again, and there is absolutely no reference anywhere in your code about wix. It looks like maybe you've connected your domain to Wix but are simultaneously using the Wix embedding code at your original site-- there's something definitely wrong in the way this has been set up.

We need to await people with more expertise.

Your site as listed above is pointing directly to the sgpmedia home page.
I take it you bought a domain from them, yes? what is it?
Go here and check that your site is actually pointing to Wix.
What's My DNS? - Global DNS Propagation Checker
Type in you domain, without the "/" on the end.

When you check, 216.139.212.144 should be the only DNS listed.

As far as not being able to access you files, what ever they are, that's between you and sgpmedia.

Luke, I think you'll need to hire a website expert in your local area to unravel this for you. Your site was never pointed to Wix. I saw your site yesterday and there was absolutely nothing from Wix on it. Now there's no way of guessing what you've done that's made your original site disappear. It's a tangled mess - Hire an expert.

Hi Luke,

From the posts above it seems that sgpmedia.com is pointing at the correct server - hosted by wix.com. . this explains why you cannot access your files.

If you connect to ftp.sgpmedia.com now you are trying to connect to wix.com as they host your site, not the host where your files are. This is because all traffic for sgpmedia.com is now pointed to wix.com

Your files will still be sitting on your previous providers servers. You need to ask your previous host for the ip address for FTP connections to your files, then connect to that address with your ftp client.

this probably the same issue for your email. Once tou change the DNS address for your domain all traffic for that domin goes to the new provider.

R

rangerst, your post makes sense and is probably the answer Luke has needed. I do remember a post similar awhile back. When a company already has an existing website, with emails, contact forms, whatever else they have there - it all becomes disconnected if they suddenly point their existing domain name to Wix. The best solution for companies with existing sites seems to be to use the embedding code.

This thread is a little confusing because when it first went up, Luke's site wasn't at all connected to Wix. So when you said that this thread seemed to indicate that his site was connected--I was confused--I went back and checked, and I see that now it Is connected, it's a totally different website than what I originally saw.

BUT one more point of confusion--you flipped some letters in the site's domain name, rangerst. The site is "sgpmedia" not "spgmedia"---I went to the latter first and was very confused--Straightened out now.

!
