Smile Online Presence

Hi all
My first tip for developing your web presence is the first step: the visual aspect.

The visual packaging of your music is extremely important when it comes to the web. You can't depend only on your music, as amazing as it may be; you need to build your appearance and presentation format as well. On web promotion the music doesn't just speak for itself (as on the radio), the look, the appearance, the visuals, all have look has a big influence on how people experience your music.

1. Building a professional look is really important if you want to be taken seriously and get attention from important names in the industry.

2. It's important to make a visual element (like a logo) that is consistent, just like the name of the band, so people will start seeing and recognizing you on the web. Developing this logo while remembering your music genre. For example you wouldn't choose the colors yellow, green and red to represent you unless you were a reggae or dub band)

This is Terry Poison http://www.terrypoison.com/,
check out her Logo that totally say "ultra elctro"
And see how they use this logo through out the Web.

Hi Yaelle,

Another import thing is to catch the visitor attention by putting interresting medias right on the landing page of a site, to put the best catalog song in autoplay and why not a videoclip.

I would like to put an important subject on the table : what if users use commercial mp3 on their wix site? What is the risk if they're not the rights owners or if they don't have any agreement from any third part owner like label or editor?

I saw many wix users who used commercial songs with their player and I really think it's time to make them able to use some free streamings instead of making them take risks by using medias without knowing the possible consequence of such an act.

HI!
Firstly, you gave a very good tip, on the same subject make sure when you put your player on auto play it is very clear as to where it is on the page and how viewers can stop it if they choose.

Secondly,
I think you are addressing a very important issue.
since I work manly with musicians (who post their own music) I haven't run into this problem.
most importantly if you do use commercial mp3's give visible credit to the artist.
I'm interested to hear if you know a solution to this problem?
is it a problem if you give visible credit to the musician?

on the same subject, musicians who use right reserved graphics they download from the web. very important to get permission.

Hi,

The problem is that many users do use majors catalogs songs. I definately think we must allow them to stream musics / add third part streaming players.

So yes, when any other third part is engaged in the rights like labels, editors, producers etc, it's easier to ask the musicians themselves to have a diffusion authorization.

Many audio / pictures tracking systems are up now and can scan websites to find frauders like a getty friend of mine told me : http://www.picscout.com/

Question I dont get it

hi. nice to meet you.

I'm happy opened this place for musicians.

musicians put there music on the page. so why is there a problem?>

I have an idea!! why dont you let "regular" wix users ask permision from "music" wix users to post there music on there page.

about the online promotion... a logo? isn't that kinda ya know " cheep"? it's like your comparing musicians, who are artists first and for most, to marketing products, it degrades our music.

and while on the topic of web presence. isn't myspace more important for a bigginer musician then a web site? what the point who would see it.

that all for now folks

Hello all! I'm a studio session bassist, and I give cred's to my client's music that is on my site. I have stated in plain language that ALL MATERIAL IS COPYWRITTEN by the respective artists, and that I am ALLOWED to use their tracks with the permission of the artists. Anytime permission is withdrawn, the tracks come off. You can also link to my client's websites via hyperlinks on my Wix.

Legal issues are bad, so do the right thing (and the smart thing): give credit where credit is due! If it is not your original music, make sure you let everyone know who's music it is and where it came from.

The problem isn't in regard of users musics, because they re probably owners of, the problem i about users who put copyrighted songs in their sites.

As long as credit is givven then they are not violating copy rights for jut playing the music, isn't this the glory of the web?

the problem only starts when they make money off it somehow
